Podcast: Tribute to World Rare Disease Day
World Rare Disease Day was established in 2008 by the European Agency for Rare Diseases (EURORDIS). Since then, it has been commemorated on the last day of February, with the aim of raising public awareness and lobbying for EU Member States’ health and welfare systems to adapt to the needs of patients, to properly prevent and treat their illnesses.
Diseases affecting about 1 person in 2000 are rare. In the EU it is estimated that there are 30 million people suffering from one of the 8000 rare diseases, while in Greece it is 1000000.
The texts of the show and the selection of songs were edited by the student Stavroula Tziolia, who is one of one million Greeks. She is too in the microphone. Good listening.
