Donation from Stavros Niarchos Foundation to European School Radio

We are pleased to announce that we are in the final phase of receiving a donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (20,000 euros) following a request from our Scientific Society in October 2019. The Foundation showed strong interest in our action and evaluated it positively, by approving the proposal and covering the cost for the necessary procedures to upgrade the infrastructure of the European School Radio (https://www.snf.org/el/dorees/apodektes/e/epistimonikis-etaireia-european-school-radio,-to- proto-mathitiko-radiofono / agora-eksoplismou/)

More specifically, the donation will support the work of “European School Radio, The First Student Radio”, promoting Media Education and encouraging students for Innovation in Communication of original cultural content (radio and music works). In particular, supporting the action of the educational program “Broadcast on the European School Radio – Journalists on the radio”, implemented in Thessaloniki with the partnership of the Department of Informatics and Electronic Systems of the Hellenic University of Greece, the Department of Journalism and Mass Media of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, the Union of Editors of Daily Newspapers of Macedonia-Thrace, it will give the opportunity to establish a Student Radio Centre for young journalists.

The total donation will cover the cost of supply, installation and maintenance of state-of-the-art IT and Audio Equipment for the radio studio and the premises of European School Radio, provided to the Department of Computer and Electronic Systems Engineering of the International University of Greece. The facilities will be able to host the training and educational events for the Student Radio. The aim is to create a model training center for radio throughout Greece, given that the physical headquarters of European School Radio is located in Thessaloniki and the tertiary institution provides the opportunity for flexibility in the actions that will take place there, outside the training program. The workshops and the training seminars for the teachers will be able to be hosted in the spaces, where the necessary equipment will be installed, in order to give the opportunity to participate in the growing educational public that is interested in the actions of the Student Radio. In addition, undergraduate and postgraduate students will have the opportunity to practice, using the attractive equipment.
